This is kind of random, but the recent KBS fusion sageuk Hong Gil Dong just won an award at the second Roma Fiction Fest on July 12.

The competitive categories were TV Movie, Miniseries, and Continuing Series; Hong Gil Dong won for Best Miniseries.

According to the Roma Fiction Fest site, “The Festival confirms and restates the objective of offering itself as an annual event for the worldwide production of television fiction and as a meeting place where the elevated artistic quality of products matches great success in terms of audience.”

The Diamond Award (best of all three categories) went to 10 Days to War, a BBC Two production that also won for best TV Movie. Special Mention went to Boris 2, shown on Fox Channels Italy, which was also the winner of the Best Continuing Series category.

Hong Gil Dong isn’t in bad company: other awards included Best Director (Continuing Series) going to Omar Madha of Spooks, Best Male Lead (Continuing) going to Michael C. Hall of Dexter, and Julianna Margulies for Best Female Lead (Continuing) for Canterbury’s Law.

The Korean Broadcasting System's (KBS) hit miniseries "Hong Gil-dong, the Hero" won the Best Television Product award at the 2008 Roma Fiction Fest Saturday.

The Roma Fiction Fest, which started last year, is an annual event dedicated to Italian and international television fiction. It is divided into five competitive categories: Television Movies, Miniseries, Continuing series, Documentaries for Television and Docu-dramas, and Pitching. "Hong Gil-dong" won the Best Television Product in the miniseries section while KBS won the award for Best Producer and Broadcaster.

"Hong Gil-dong" first aired last January with Kang Ji-hwan as the Korean version of Robin Hood and Sung Yu-ri, former member of pop group Fin.K.L, as the heroine.

Aiming to be the first "comical epic drama," the miniseries became popular with its dazzling action scenes and experimental scenes, including an episode where Gisaeng, or traditional female entertainers, dance to techno music dressed in Korean traditional clothes, known as hanbok, during the Joseon Kingdom era (1392-1910).

Depicting the heroic story of one of Korea's legendary heroes, Hong Gil-dong, the drama went for genuine "fusion," presenting costumes, music and sets that held modern elements during the Joseon period.

Other winners from the event include BBC's "10 Days to War" for the Best Television Movie and Italy's "Boris 2" for the Best Continuing Series.

Fin.K.L member, Sung Yuri, establishes herself as a Korean drama queen through "Hong Gil Dong." Fans had waited 10 years because she had never had fans meet event in mainland since her debut. However, she recently decided to meet her fans in Xiamen at the end of this month and at the same time contribute to charity.

Ever since she joined Sidus HQ, Sung Yuri's stardom has been smooth. Taking up leading roles in dramas like "Prince's First Love", "Snow Queen" and "Hong Gil Dong", she established her status as a Korean Drama Queen. Although her popularity is increasing, Sung Yu Ri has not met up with the China Fans since her debut 10 years ago, until the good news announced yesterday! She will visit mainland China next month and that will surely bring up the heat in Star Chase.

Sung Yuri's visit this time is not to promote a drama or filming for a CF, but to take part in this coming July 26th "Sung Yuri Charity Autograph Session" at Xiamen, Fujian. She will sign on goods contributed by many companies. After that, there will be a charity sale on C-C website. Profits from the sales will be contributed to the Xiamen Charitable Organization. Demonstration of her charitable side will surely make the fans participation active in this charity sale.

Although she will be coming to mainland, Sung Yuri's promotional stunts will not stop. The photos of advertisement for clothing brand, ADEN, modeled with Jo In Sung was made public recently. The advertisement was pasted around South Korean streets as promotion. It is very eye-catching.
