Guys, if you're done ogling at the babelicious image, take a step back into reality.

If you have not by now already figured out for yourself, this life-like image is actually not real. Yes, it is a 3D masterpiece, done from scratch and with a touch of celestial computer magic no doubt.

But do not be disappointed. Here's the good news: The 3D babe actually exists in real life.

She is no other than lovely Korean actress Song Hye Kyo, who is best remembered for her role opposite Korean singer/actor Rain, in the TV romantic comedy FullHouse.

But we digress.

Let's go back to the picture of Song. Even if you aren't a particular fan of the actress, or if you know nothing about CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) technology, you have to admit – it's an impressive piece of work isn't it?

The image had been circulating around the Internet and found its way onto numerous blogs and forums. AsiaOne tracked down its creator, film student Max Edwin Wahyudi, 24.

Wahyudi is an Indonesian currently studying at the Vancouver Film School. Looking at the work of art, one would think the artist is already a pro in the 3D field.

But a modest Wahyudi tells AsiaOne: "I don't think I'm a CG artist yet, but I created my first 3D model around 4 to 5 years ago, Then I learnt the more advanced 3D modelling around 2 years ago."

The artist admits that going pro as a 3D modeller has been a consideration.

"It started out just as a hobby. I like to play videogames and I am always interested in how they create those 3D graphics, so I tried to make some 3D models for videogames and I've been hooked ever since," describes Wahyudi on the birth of the talent.

The making of the image was a "learning experience" for Wahyudi, who counts Song Hye Gyo as a "favourite actress". Hence the subject of the masterpiece.

"I tried to make her face first but since I don't have much knowledge and I don't want to ruin my favourite actress's face, I made another face first. Song Hye Kyo was my third project, and it looks like the third time is the charm," mused the hobbyist.

The whole process took Wahyudi "about three months from start to finish". He started by collating photographs of the cherubic actress's face.

The image was then rendered by constantly cross-referencing with the real-life version, to achieve as realistic as possible a match.

And it isn't just a paint brush and easel affair. 3D rendering is a highly complicated process, and to achieve the greatest semblance of reality possible, the artist had to take into account room lighting effects

Furthermore, as any 3D artist will tell you, hair is one of the most difficult bits to create, due to its unique texture, and heavy memory needed from the computer software to render.

Wahyudi reveals in a tutorial that the "hair count' for Song's image is only about 15,000 (the average human head contains 100,000) but who's counting anyway?

With the mind-boggling array of elements to take into account just to re-create a human face, being skilled at using 3D rendering software is obviously not enough.

"I also studied lighting, make-up, and hair styling for the final render," says Wahyudi.

The efforts have paid off.

Wahyudi has received an "overwhelming" response from awed viewers who has seen his work on various CG forums and websites.

"I never expected this image to get so many positive comments. I actually wasn't considering becoming a CG artist before all this," admits the Indonesian.

On the forum CGsociety.org, Wahyudi explains that he did the image as a "challenge" from friends, and that the hardest part of the artwork was to capture the actress's smile.

The budding artist lets on that he has to pose in front of the mirror numerous times, just to get a feel for the muscles and contours that bring on a smile.

"I made her smile just for fun, but it turned out to be a very difficult process. I'm just glad it worked out fine," Wahyudi says on the forum.

Judging by the comments generated, it seems the admiration is unbridled.

One forum user said: "That's the most realistic 3D human i've ever seen. You broke my scepticizm."

Another added: "I have a hard time comprehending that is CG it's so real, I was following your WIP (Work-in-progress), and I have to say it turned out even better then I thought it would….my brain feels like it's going to explode due to your awesomeness..."

A third user was most to the point: "HOLY FRICKIN $%!@$%#$%^@#%^&@#!!!".

He was obviously lost for words.

Not surprisingly, Wahyudi's masterpiece garnered the 3D Choice Awards from voters on CGsociety. The up-and-coming whiz-kid is humbled and even thanked readers for their interest on one of the CG websites.

Talent is when one claims to do something for the fun of it, and ends up with a tangible that rivals even the veterans.

Wahyudi is one of those people.
